Driving Traffic To Your Website - Part 2

In-bound links are basically web links on other websites that link to your own. There is a general consensus of opinion that Google ranks a site more highly if it has got plentiful in bound links, especially those from sites which have relevance to your own and if those sites are also highly ranked by Google.

You can of course pay an SEO (search engine optimisation) company to do the legwork for you and build the number of links on a monthly basis (Google likes organic growth, so it is better to gradually build up the number of links rather than introducing them all at once – this will at least make it easier for you!)

Alternatively, there are some relatively simple steps that you can take for yourself including:

  • Pay for a web listing on the popular directory websites such as yell.com, Applegate, Kellysearch etc. Sometimes these can be costly so it is a good idea to think about your budget beforehand.
  • Use the Google Keywords Tool to assess what key phrases may be used (see driving traffic to your site part 1) by others to find your products and services and then type this keyword into Google yourself.  Invariably the 1st 2nd or 3rd pages will include other directory sites so it is worth trying to get listings on those directories too. They are quite often cheaper than the bigger directories and if you're willing to put a link on your site linking back to them, often they do not charge you for the directory listing.
  • Ask your suppliers / associates etc if they would be prepared to have a reciprocal links between your site and theirs.
  • Explore the possibility of developing posts on social networking sites that link to your site (LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter are good examples)
  • Ask your web developer to set up additional websites that are relevant to your keywords and that grow in size on a daily basis. These types of sites can be set up very cost effectively (from £150 per site).
